‘White Christmas’ comes to life on the Count Basie stage

Phoenix Productions, the award-winning community theatre organization, will present the hit Broadway musical, White Christmas, for two weekends at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank beginning November 15.

Based on the classic Bing Crosby movie, White Christmas boasts a score chock full of the best melodies of Irving Berlin, American’s most beloved composer including “Blue Skies,” “I Love a Piano,” “How Deep is the Ocean” and – of course -- “Happy Holidays”, “Snow”, “I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm” and “White Christmas”.

The well-known story involves World War II veterans Bob and Phil, a successful song-and-dance team, who follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters enroute to their Christmas show in Vermont, where they encounter their former commanding officer who is now doing a bad job of running an inn. Or course, the boys save the inn and win the girls.

The Phoenix revival features a cast of 40 area performers lead by Jennifer Grasso of Highlands and Mike Morch of Wall. Also featured in the cast of Laura Gelford and Ian Brown-Gorrell of Manhattan, Paul Caliendo of Point Pleasant, Sarah Coleman of Holmdel and Nico;e Picinic of Manahawkin.

“This is perfect show to put the whole family into a holiday mood,” notes director Anthony Greco. “The sets and costumes are lavish, and the production numbers featuring some very accomplished dancers just keep coming one after another. It would take a true Scrooge not to leave the theatre full of Christmas spirit.”
