Florida Man Faces Assault Charges After Riverside Gardens Park Fight
Red Bank police allege that man hit officer with closed fist
A Florida man is facing several charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer, stemming from an alleged fight in a borough park last week.
Red Bank police arrested Andrew C. Collins, 28, of Orange Park, Fla., on Dec. 16 following a reported fight at Riverside Gardens Park, West Front Street.
Collins “purposely and knowingly caused a public inconvenience and alarm” by engaging in a public fight at the park at 2:06 a.m., police reported in the complaint warrant.

When police tried to break up the fight, they allege that Collins, who was allegedly in possession of a silver husky box cutter “that served no legitimate purpose,” resisted arrest by striking the arresting officer with a closed fist, according to the warrant.
Collins was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, aggravated assault on a police officer and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was held on $27,500 bail with no 10 percent option. His first appearance in municipal court is slated for Dec. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
