Court Date Set for McKenna's DWI and Related Charges Following Crash

Former Red Bank Mayor Ed McKenna will appear in Tinton Falls Municipal Court on June 11 to answer to the driving while intoxicated and related charges lodged against him following a single-car collision on the Garden State Parkway, officials at Tinton Falls court said Thursday afternoon.

"The incident occurred on Garden State Parkway north around milemarker 108 on May 13 (Monday) at 9:50 p.m.," NJ State Police Spokesman Brian Polite said.

McKenna, 63, is now facing driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and unsafe lane change charges by NJ State Police, who patrol the parkway, after "the investigation indicated that McKenna was traveling north in the express lanes of the parkway when he lost control of his vehicle (a Mercedes), striking the right guardrail. After the vehicle struck the guardrail, it spun, facing oncoming traffic," Sgt. Polite said.

Troopers arrived at the scene, investigated and lodged the charges.

McKenna, a partner in the law firm McKenna, DuPont, Higgins & Stone, is also chairman of the NJ State Planning Commission and a member of the RiverCenter board of trustees.

He was mayor of Red Bank for more than a decade, from 1990 until 2006. He was also Law Director for Tinton Falls.
