Indictments: Cocaine Possession and Assault on Cop

Two men were indicted on charges in separate arrests in Red Bank and Shrewsbury

A Red Bank man was indicted Thursday on charges he assaulted a Shrewsbury Police officer during a Tuesday morning arrest.

According to court documents, James Leidner, 22, was charged with committing aggravated assault by attempting to injure Ptlm. Frank Neary during an arrest. Police say Leidner resisted arrest while being handcuffed and kicked Neary in the hip.

The Riverside Avenue resident was transported to Monmouth County Jail and ordered held on $25,000 bail. Information detailing the reason for Leidner’s arrest prior to the assault was not immediately available.

On Wednesday, arrested a borough resident following an investigation after they said they found him to be in possession of cocaine.

Jeison Garcia-Alvardo of Front Street was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled and dangerous substance, in this case cocaine, and possession of a controlled and dangerous substance with intent to distribute, third and second-degree crimes, respectively.

The 24 year old was transported to Monmouth County Jail and ordered held on $75,000 bail.
