Monmouth County grand jurors hand up indictments

An Ocean City man is under indictment on charges alleging he forged checks in Red Bank.

Matthew Laverty, 25, was indicted Tuesday by a Monmouth County grand jury on forgery, uttering a forged instrument and theft by deception charges.

Grand jurors found enough evidence to charge Laverty with forging checks in the name of Gaetano's LLC of Red Bank from Aug. 10 to Sept. 10. Laverty then cashed them at TD Bank and gained more than $500, the indictment charges.

Avery D. Carroll, 36, of Red Bank was indicted Tuesday on an eluding charge.

Carroll, of Tower Hill Drive, led a police officer on a chase in Red Bank and Little Silver on Sept. 21 instead of stopping after the officer signaled for him to do so, the indictment charges.
