Longtime Officer to be Sworn in as Chief

Shrewsbury Police Department's Acting Chief Louis Ferraro will be sworn in as the borough's newest chief of police at the town council meeting tonight. Ferraro, a borough resident, will be sworn in by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Anthony Mellaci, according to a release from Shrewsbury.

Ferraro is a 22-year veteran of the of the police department, starting his career as a patrolman in 1990 and moving steadily up the ranks.

Along with a wealth of experience Ferraro assumes this new position with an extensive list of commendations garnered over his years of service, the release states. His broad education in law enforcement is highlighted by time spent at the FBI National Academy.

Ferraro became the borough's acting chief early this year when Chief John Wilson announced his retirement. With Wilson serving out the remainder of his career on vacation and accumulated sick time, Ferraro has served as the department's top cop.
