Fairview EMS transported the man to Brookdale, where he was taken by State Police helicopter to the Burn Center at Saint Barnabas in Livingston.

Fire Chief John D'Atilio saw fire coming from an attic vent on one side of the house, and smoke billowing from the other, Spears said. Firefighters took hoses inside to attack fire in the attic and later opened up the roof for vertical ventilation.
