Red Bank and Shrewsbury Cops Assist in Hunt for Burglar

Local K9 units called to the scene for a search after the suspect fled into nearby woods.

, assisted by officers from Red Bank and Shrewsbury, were called to Grant Place on Sunday when a neighbor called to report seeing a man break a window and enter an unoccupied home there.

According to Chief Daniel Shaffery, patrol units were dispatched at 11:50 a.m. on June 17 to investigate a report that a burglary was in progress. A neighbor reported that a black male wearing jeans, a gray sweatshirt and carrying a backpack had broken the window of a side door five to 10 minutes earlier and entered the house.

The suspect fled into a "heavily wooded area" nearby after being confronted, said Shaffery.

A perimeter was established, he added, and police K-9 units from Long Branch and the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office were deployed into the wooded area in an unsuccessful effort to locate the suspect. Little Silver Police units were assisted by police units from Red Bank, Shrewsbury and Rumson.
