Man allegedly resisted arrest and attempted to escape police

A Red Bank man faces aggravated assault and drug possession charges after allegedly injuring a Middletown police officer last week.

Police charge that Matthew S. Kassardy, 37, assaulted Patrolman Stephen Greenwood on Dec. 10 and made terroristic threats against the officer by threatening violence.

During the incident, Kassardy is alleged to have briefly escaped police custody and resisted arrest, according to the complaint signed by Greenwood.

Kassardy also is charged with possessing five Oxycodone pills. The pills were blue in color and marked “K9,” which authorities said identifies them as the drug.
