Red Bank Man Charged With Burglarizing Businesses During Sandy Power Outage

Resident held on $30,000 bail

A Red Bank man was among a trio of locals recently arrested after Tinton Falls police said they burglarized and stole more than $2,000 from two Shrewsbury Avenue businesses during the power outage caused by Hurricane Sandy.

Juan Escalante, 26, of Red Bank, Darryl Lainge, 26, of Eatontown, and Markies Wells, 27, of Ocean Township broke into the two businesses, one of which was the Dunkin' Donuts at 596 Shrewsbury Avenue, on Oct. 31, police said.

Tinton Falls Police Lt. David Scrivanic said a subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of the three men, and they were charged with burglary and theft.

"A search warrant was executed and all proceeds, in excess of $2,000, were recovered," Scrivanic said.

Escalante was arrested and placed in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution  in lieu of $30,000 bail with no 10 percent option.

The investigating officers were Detective Sgt. Scott Trocchia and Det. Joseph Schuler.
