Shrewsbury Chief Advises Signing Onto New Alert System

There is a new system powering TwoRiverAlert.com.

By Elaine Van Develde

With the implementation of a new emergency notification system, Shrewsbury Chief of Police Lou Ferraro advises residents to sign up — again for assurance.

CodeRed, he said in a release, is the system now powering TwoRiverAlert.com, which funnels alerts to emergencies and urgent residential, business and schools advisories to Shrewsbury and Little Silver residents. Red Bank Regional High School information is available through the alerts as well.

The system is an efficient one, but if you haven't signed on and your telephone number is not input, then it's not going to work for you, Ferraro said.

"If your phone number is not in the database, you will not be called," the police chief added in the release. And entering your number directly into the system yourself is all that needs to be done and is the reason why the CodeRed system was selected, according to the release.

“No one should automatically assume his or her phone number is included, even if you were in our old system, you will need to enroll in the new system” Ferraro said.

Here's how it's done: Go to www.TwoRiverAlert.com, click on the appropriate link and enroll.

If you want to receive messages from more than one of the entities involved — the municipalities, Shrewsbury and Little Silver schools and Red Bank Regional High School, you must enroll with each.

Those without internet access may stop by their respective police departments to enroll. Forms need to be completed there and the information will be added via the appropriate municipality's computers.

"CodeRed gives those who want to be included an easy and secure method for inputting information," Ferraro said. "The data collected will only be used for emergency notification purposes."
