Shrewsbury Resident Among 75 Fire Academy Grads

Cole Porter recently graduated from the Monmouth County Fire Academy.

The Monmouth County Fire Academy graduated 75 firefighters from the Firefighter I Program this week, according to a release from the country. Among the 75 graduates was Shrewsbury resident Cole Porter representing Shrewsbury Hose Company No. 1. 

According to the release, graduates worked 188 hours over 30 sessions and received training in rescue, fire extinguishment, hazardous materials response, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, electrical safety, and care of hoses, ladders and other firefighting equipment.

Freeholder Director John Curley addressed the graduates in a recent ceremony.

"Tonight, you become members of one of America's greatest creations: organized firefighting," he said, adding that the roll of firefighters has grown over the years. "You don’t just fight fires. You will be required to respond to all sort sof emergencies, like first aid calls, traffic accidents, hazardous materials spills and, yes, even terrorist acts."

Red Bank Administrator and Fire Marshal Stanley Sickles instructed students at the fire academy.
