Small Fire Forces Evacuation of Molly Pitcher

A small fire was quickly attended to at the Molly Pitcher Inn Wednesday afternoon.

A small fire that officials say started during construction work at the was quickly knocked down, but not before forcing the evacuation of the Riverside Avenue hotel.

According to an employee with the inn, construction work on the roof resulted in a small fire. Guests and employees of the hotel were evacuated as a precaution though no injuries were reported, a fire official who remained on the scene said.

The fire broke out at around 12:30 p.m. and was quickly doused. Crews from Red Bank and Middletown were dispatched to the scene but left shortly after the fire was handled. The borough's fire marshal remained on the scene well after the incident.
