Welcoming a New Red Bank Police Chief

"It's definitely bittersweet," said Red Bank's new police chief, Darren McConnell, of his Wednesday night appointment following the September death of his predecessor, Steve McCarthy.

"I keep saying that this is not the way it was supposed to happen, but i know he would want us to move forward in the department and keep up the tradition that he set. He set high standards and we want to keep that going."

McConnell, 44, a 1987 Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School graduate, started working in the Red Bank Police Department at the age of 19. He rose through the ranks over the years to his most recent title of captain and now chief.

He is a resident of Red Bank who has four children.

Take a look at the video above for a glimpse into McConnell's swearing-in.
