A public hearing will be held at Brookdale Community College today to solicit input for the Governor's NJ SAFE Task Force, which studies gun control, addiction, mental health and school safety.
The hearing, which is open to the public, will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Warner Student Life Center, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. Parking is free in lot 7.
Members of the public will be afforded the chance to offer a brief, three-minute statement on the issues of gun control, addiction, mental health and school safety, to better help the Task Force address and prevent acts of violence.
Those who cannot attend can provide written submissions by emailing NJ-SAFETaskForce@njdcj.org.
Bullying must be addressed..plays a large part in the mental health of those who commit crimes like Newtown. Videos games promoting gun use should be taken off the market.
And there are people in this country that somehow think passing ANOTHER LAW banning guns would protect us from someone like this. If you haven't noticed, people like this are not concerned about breaking laws - they only care about fulfilling their own twisted agenda. The only people that a gun ban law would impact are the LAW ABIDING CITIZENS, which will only serve to cripple the ability to protect ourselves.
The term "assault weapon" really just means "scary looking gun" and firearms that are politically characterized as such are not done so because of their function, they are done so by the way they look. Before anyone starts calling for "assault weapons to be banned now", educate yourself as to what they are, or the fact that they don't even really exist and here is a simple to follow explanation of the history of the so-called "assault weapons" everyone is so scared of http://www.assaultweapon.info While you're at it, you may want to start the movement to ban baseball bats because they kill more people each year than "assault weapons"; http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/ucr/crime-in-the-u.s/2011/crime-in-the-u.s.-2011/tables/expanded-homicide-data-table-8
I would disagree with your point that "handguns is the major problem, not rifles". The major problem is people who kill other people regardless of what weapon or means they use to do it. Without a doubt, firearms account for the majority of the homicides in 2011 according to the FBI Crime Report I link to above, 67% to be exact, and handguns represent the largest percentage when all the means are broken out and handguns represent almost 50% of all homicides. Someone explain to me why the gun-control advocates are not going after handguns and instead going after rifles which is where the vast majority of "assault weapons" fall under. Rifles account for 2.5% of the homicides in 2011 and roughly the same the previous years in the crime report. And the evil "military style" AR-15 rifles are a subset of that "rifles" category so they represent an even smaller percentage. You would think the anti-gunners would be going after the handguns based on these statistics but it goes to show, gun control isn't about guns, its about control.
The Second Amendment has nothing to do with deer and bears...
The 2nd Amendment has NOTHING to do with hunting.
It is unreasonable to think banning any weapon is a good idea, its only a good idea for the slime of life criminals. If you are dead set against any weapon or violent video games you do not have to take part in them...simply ignore them, do not buy them!!! You are also free to move to more restrictive parts of the country or the UK where they are outlawed but then you subject yourself to stabbings, clubbings and so on!
Robert is 100% on the money! Could not have put it better myself! Bravo!!!
