Long Branch Council Awards Bid For Pier Village Boardwalk Repair

Repairs will cost close to $200,000

While it did not receive as much damage from Hurricane Sandy as other sections, Pier Village's boardwalk was still in need of repairs.

The Long Branch Council has awarded a bid to K.B.D. Construction LLC to perform repairs on the Pier Village boardwalk for $194,380.

K.B.D. Construction was the lowest responsible bidder of 14 applicants.

The funds for the repairs are available in the city's Hurricane Sandy emergency appropriations, and the city is expected to be reimbursed by FEMA for cleanup costs such as this.

Repairs will include concrete slope protection, railings, sand berm, landscaping and repair of the boardwalk's irrigation system. The most expensive repairs will be the reinforcement of the concrete slope at $41,250.

Portions of the Pier Village boardwalk are still fenced off to the public, but the repairs are expected to begin soon so they boardwalk can be reopened for the start of the summer season.

Big Whitey is surprised us taxpayers have to foot this bill. I would think the entity that runs Pier Village, and still pays no taxes, would be responsible. Did we also pay for the plumbing under McCloones?

Sure, fix Pier Village first. Probably will up the beach badge prices too!

The repairs are being made to Pier Village and be reimbursed by FEMA?? Homeowners are not even getting money for their homes to make them livable, and we are supposed to be excited about Long Branch Boardwalksbeing repaired so residents can be homeless but watch bennies walk around without a care in the world?? What a F#%^&d up system.... They should reaapropriate the money for home owners and worry about boardwalks lastly
