Mayor Menna Backs Down From Calorie Count on Menu Initiative

The mayor issued a statement on the matter.

In light of his wellness campaign, Red Bank Mayor Pat Menna recently pushed for a ban on smoking in the borough, starting with parks. The same wellness initiative in mind, he and the governing body grappled with the possibility of having Red Bank restaurants put calorie counts on menus.

The mayor, however, recanted that idea in a released statement, citing that Red Bank restaurants are too unique to hold to such a uniform, generic standard usually employed by chain restaurants.

In his statement, the mayor also said that, as is standard procedure, once the idea was broached, it was reviewed more by council and Red Bank RiverCenter and restaurants. All entities decided that the idea was "problematic" and potentially place a prohibitive cost on businesses.

See the attached statement in its entirety.

Red Bank Mayor Pat Menna is on a POWER TRIP (as are many otherMayors) . He is vastly overstepping the authority granted to Mayors under State law and in doing so he is unwittingly opening up Red Bank to costly law suits. He is neither the State Governor, nor the State Legislature___yet he wants to pass laws like he is Both the State Governor and Legislators rolled up into one and he (like many other Mayors) is stepping Way over the lines of what Mayors are allowed to do in accordane with our State Constitution.

Taking a page from the "Book of Hypocrisy" that Mayor Bloomberg wrote, I see. Count your calories at home, Pat. People go out to patron a business, not have a diet advocate follow them. Progressive politics is an encroachment of freedom.
