Monmouth Boat Club Celebrated for 'Generous' Donation to Red Bank

Rowing and sailing club presents Borough Council with $5,000 check

Mayor Pat Menna and Borough Council lauded the Monmouth Boat Club Wednesday for a $5,000 donation to the municipality.

Club Commodore Crissy VanSiclen handed Menna a check at the governing body's regular meeting as she and council members alike spoke about the spirit of cooperation that both entities enjoy.

"This is deeply appreciated because you don't have to do this but you do it out of the goodness of your heart. You recognize that Red Bank is home, and we do provide some assistance to you. Undoubtedly that relationship will continue," Menna said.

The boat club promotes sailing and rowing while operating out of a historic structure on the Navesink River that's been home for nearly 100 years.

The mayor said the club made a commitment to assist the borough when it endorsed the bid to historically preserve the clubhouse.

"Twenty years later, you're still maintaining your commitment," Menna said.

Councilman Michael DuPont was impressed that the boat club continues to make donations.

"I have to commend the Monmouth Boat Club for really being gracious but more importantly generous as well as a team participant here in Red Bank. It's truly a blessing that you took it upon yourself to offer to come and help us out in these trying economic times," DuPont said.

The Monmouth Boat Club welcomes new members. Those interested in joining can contact Jackie Catanach at mbcmembership@gmail.com.
