Red Bank Plans Veterans Day Ceremony

Recent storms and power outages won't stop the borough from holding its annual Veterans Day ceremony.

Though Red Bank has dedicated its staff and hundreds of hours to dealing with the aftereffects of Hurricane Sandy, borough Mayor Pat Menna said the town will hold a ceremony to honor its veterans.

On Veterans Day, which is Sunday, Nov. 11, Red Bank will hold an abbreviated ceremony in front of the war memorial next to the historic borough hall at 51 Monmouth Street at 11 a.m. As usual, the borough is hosting the ceremony along with the Red Bank Elks.

While Hurricane Sandy caused widespread damage and outages in Red Bank, Menna said it was important to remember the veterans on Veterans Day, though he admitted that some of the flair of past events will be missing. Typically, the borough's students play a large role in Red Bank's Veterans Day ceremonies. With children having not attended school for the past two weeks, there wasn't time to plan as their normally is.

But, on a day of remembrance, Menna said Red Bank will do just that.
