Red Bank's Aidan Byrnes Chosen as Boys Nation Senator

A young man from Red Bank has been chosen by the American Legion Jersey Boys State (ALJBS) to serve as a Boys Nation senator.

Aidan Byrnes will be attending the Boys Nation program in Washington, D.C., this summer from July 19 to 26. There, he will become a delegate, acting as Senator Byrnes, and will learn about legislative practices and participate in hands-on political party process procedures and a faux election of a president and vice president, according to a release from ALJBS.

Byrnes will also interact with elected officials, such as U.S. Senator Robert Menendez, who participated in the program himself in 1979, and the newly appointed U.S. Senator Jeffrey Chiesa, who is temporarily filling recently-deceased Senator Frank Lautenberg's shoes.

Gov. Chris Christie also served as a Boys Nation Senator in 1979.
