TELL US: Should Red Bank Ban Smoking in Parks?

The governing body is considering a ban that could start with borough parks.

There may soon be no place, or limited places, to go outside for a smoke in Red Bank.

The Borough Council last night discussed moving forward with banning smoking in parks, citing that if it can be done elsewhere, it can be done in Red Bank for the enhanced quality of life of residents and visitors to the borough looking to get some fresh air, according to a story in the Asbury Park Press.

Nothing definitive has yet been decided, but officials brought up that the idea makes sense in light of broader health initiatives undertaken by the mayor's Wellness Campaign Committee, according to the report.

Menna brought up the idea that smoking could potentially be banned in all public spaces, the report noted.

Tell us what you think. Should the borough move forward with a town-wide smoking ban in public spaces, a ban in parks only or no ban at all?

Sal, While I do agree with your theory regarding control, I do support this ban. There is nothing worse than enjoying a wonderful mean outside on a beautiful day and having cig smoke go in your face. It will also aid in the never ending battle over litter.

Sal, While I do agree with your theory on control, as a non smoker, I do support this ban. There is nothing worse than sitting outside on a beautiful day, enjoying a wonderful meal only to have cig smoke blown into your face. It will also aid in the never ending battle over littler in Red Bank.

I never had a problem outside with someone blowing smoke in my face..I find it real easy to not stand next to someone outside smoking..My suggestion is this. You see someone in a park smoking, Don't Stand Next To Him..I never smoked a day in my life..I have never been made a prisoner or confined outdoors where I couldn't move away from a smoker..

I agree Sal

Fred....thanks for making the most sensible remark on here! it is getting out of control as far as what ppl can and cannot do! If someone is smoking outside, cross the street or move away, it's that simple. Ppl don't get it that it is bigger than just smolking. I want to see what ppl say when they tell you you can't walk down the street with any type of food, i;e, ice cream cone etc.smh!
