Testimony Continues in Middletown Housing Proposal

The Planning Board continues the hearing to February.

The Middletown Township Planning Board heard more testimony from the developer who is eyeing the wooded Taylor Lane tract in Middletown, but took no action on the application at its meeting Wednesday. Testimony will continue at the Feb. meeting.

American Properties at Middletown, LLC is seeking preliminary and final site major subdivision, and preliminary & final major site plan approval to construct 196 townhomes and 49 affordable units, along with a 3,600 foot clubhouse and a pool in the area across from Target on Route 35.

The board allowed time for a few citizens, of the dozens present, to ask questions about the plans for Heritage at Middletown.

With all the foreclosures, existing developed yet abandoned properties, and homes for sale today, do we really need developers destroying every last square acre of untouched land in this state with new developments? I'd like to see a statewide moratorium on housing development. And you may ask, well what about all the carpenters and laborers that won't have work? Let them work for firms that rehabilitate/develop the thousands of lots and homes that have been abandonded and/or left neglected for years that we already have. And now with the billions of dollars of damage left in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, let the state and local authorities focus on providing support and reducing the red tape to allow firms to repair, replace or redevelop those areas instead of giving in to money hungry developers who couldn't care less about our communities, and have no problem with replacing our woods and undeveloped spaces.into more and more roads/traffic, shopping malls and cookie cutter housing developments.
