Zoners Approve Riverwalk Commons Project

The Red Bank Zoning Board approved plans for a high-end Mechanic Street apartment complex complete with rooftop views of the Navesink River Thursday night, according to Mayor Pat Menna.

The project, called Riverwalk Commons, was first approved by the Board in 2006 but stalled soon after. This newest version of the application, which includes 24 units and a ground-floor parking garage, is less involved than the previous approved application.

According to Menna, the rooftop of the building will have open space landscaping and river views. 

The plan needed several variances in order to move forward, including locating 24 units on less than half an acre - zoning ordinances permit 25 units per acre. The proposed building is also 48.3 feet tall, more than eight feet taller than borough zoning rules.

Menna, in a Facebook post, called the project at 24-30 Mechanic Street "long delayed." He applauded the Zoning Board for giving the Riverwalk Commons Red Bank LLC approval.

"I appreciate the confidence which the business community has reaffirmed in continued progress in Red Bank," Menna wrote. "This new project compliments the strong pace of renovation and rehabilitation of commercial spaces in the Downtown."
