RBR Dance Majors Present: "A Night At the Movies" Winter Dance Concert

The public is invited to shake off the cold and attend “A Night at the Movies” Winter Dance Concert presented by the very talented Red Bank Regional (RBR) Academy of Visual & Performing Arts (VPA) Dance Majors.  The performance takes place at the Red Bank Regional Theater at 101 Ridge Road in Little Silver. Show times are Thursday, January 30, at 7 pm with a repeat performance on Saturday, February 1, at 2 pm. Tickets are $10 and $5 for students and senior citizens and can be purchased at the door.

The show features over 20 numbers in an eclectic mix of jazz, contemporary, hip hop and lyrical dance. The students have choreographed songs from old favorites as “Don’t You Forget About Me” immortalized in The Breakfast Club and the timeless “Summer Lovin” from Grease.  Contemporary music includes such hits as “Turning Page” from Twilight.  The concert also showcases the skills of two RBR VPA dance major alumnus and professional dancers. Alex Vari choreographed “Turn it Up” from Honey2. Elysha Richman created a Charlie Chaplin inspired number in honor of the golden era of silent film.  All 47 dance majors will perform in her “Booty Swing”.

All other numbers are choreographed by students, one reason why junior Gabriella Ward from Monroe Township chose to attend the RBR VPA as a dance major.

She states, “I think the best part of the RBR student choreographed programs is that you really get to experiment with dance. Very few private dance studios give their students that opportunity.”

Senior Ali Gardella from Shrewsbury was able to choreograph the theme song from one of her favorite movies, Pirates of the Caribbean.

She states, “It’s jazzy and suspenseful and really fun.  I recommend everyone come see it.”
