Fair Haven    - In the fall, Scarecrows appearing on Fair Haven’s River Road mean only one thing - it’s time for HARVEST FEST!   The annual fall extravaganza will take place on the grounds of Knollwood School, Hance Road, on Saturday, October 1, from 12:30pm to 4:30pm.  All are encouraged to attend!

Hundreds of children and parents anticipate this family event each year.  Event chairs Karen Saad & Bennett Coleman are delighted to coordinate the day, this year featuring many new games and events including miniature golf and an xbox game trailer.   Of course, Harvest Fest wouldn’t be complete without pony rides, the  trackless train, the very popular pumpkin decorating contest, and an apple pie bake-off.  Pies are judged by special faculty and PTA judges; entry fees are $3 each.  Contact Jen Halcrow at jhalc1@verizon.net for more information.  Homemade baked goods and other carnival style treats are also offered throughout the day to hungry attendees.

Once a small event held at the Fair Haven Firehouse, HARVEST FEST has grown to be a wonderful Fair Haven tradition, which takes hundreds of volunteers to make happen.   Event sponsors are thanked in a very public way, with large scarecrows advertising their business or family support hung along Fair Haven’s main thoroughfare.  “Support from numerous local businesses, and families, is crucial to the success of this event,” says Coleman, “We appreciate the many contributions from our local community.”  HARVEST FEST 2011 raised over $20,000 to support the PTA’s programs in support of Fair Haven’s public schools.

Attendance at HARVEST FEST is free and all are welcome.  For more information  contact event chairs Karen Saad, at Karen@thesaads.net or Bennett Coleman, at bennettcoleman@mac.com .
