RBR Tech Teacher Named County Teacher of the Year

A County achievement has found its way into a classroom.

Mandy Galante, a Teacher of Technology for 10 years at RBRHS learned that she had been named County Teacher of the Year after a visit from her superintendent and prinicipal Monday afternoon.

“I was sitting in my classroom on Monday after school when the door opens and in walk my superintendent and my principal with very serious looks on their faces,” explained Galante. “They start by saying ‘Mandy, we need to talk to you about a call we got’, you can imagine that my first thought was that somehow I had done something very wrong. Then they broke their poker faces and told me the good news.” 

Galante is known as an “alternate route” teacher at RBRHS, meaning that Galante came to teaching after working in the technology field. Currently Galante teaches technology courses like Digital Literacy, Intro to Computer Systems, Networking and Cybersecurity.  

In addition to the current classes Galante teaches, she is planning on introducing a course in Digital Forensics next year. She is also planning on training this summer to allow the school’s Cybersecurity course to be linked with Syracuse University, which will allow students to receive college credit.

Galante currently holds the title of RBRHS Teacher of the Year for 2011-2012.  For her newest achievement, Galante received a formal letter from the Department of Education congratulating her on her newest title. The letter also and explains the next step in the process for selection of State Teacher of the Year.
