Red Bank School Board Reorganizes

Board welcomes one new member and nominates president and vice president.

Red Bank Board of Education held its reorganization at its agenda session in the middle school Tuesday night, welcoming back three board members to new terms as well as a new face to the district.

Pete Noble and Allen Palma pledged to serve the board and were sworn in by district Business Administrator Annie Darrow to three-year terms. Sue Viscomi was sworn in to an unexpired two-year seat. Janet Jones, another three-year term winner, was unable to attend the meeting.

Palma was sworn in to his first term with the district’s board after securing a win in his first election attempt last month. Pledge in hand, Palma swore to put the district first and do his best to serve Red Bank’s children.

Darrow also presented the final election vote totals, including mailed ballots. Jones earned 288 votes, Noble 264, and Palma 253 from borough voters. Viscomi, who was appointed to the board just this year and ran uncontested for the two-year term, received 321 votes, fending off a handful of write-ins.

The district’s more than $19 million budget, along with its $12.268 million tax levy, was also approved by voters 284-189.

Also at the meeting, the board nominated Ann Roseman for another term as board president. Typically, Roseman said, the board nominates a new president each year to help keep things fresh, though Board Member Ben Forest, who nominated Roseman for the job, said it’s a good thing to have some consistency in the board’s top spot.

Forest was also nominated as the board’s vice president.
