Shrewsbury 5K this Weekend, Road Closures Scheduled

The Shrewsbury Foundation for Education's annual race is scheduled for Sunday. Oct. 21.

The 18th annual Shrewsbury 5K Classic is scheduled for this Sunday, Oct. 21. The popular race, the Foundation for Shrewsbury Education's largest fundraiser of the year, begins and ends at Shrewsbury Boro School on Obre Place and winds its way through Shrewsbury's west side neighborhoods along the way.

Entry into the 5K event is $30 — $35 on the day of the race - and $25 to $30 on the day of — for the One Mile Shrewsbury Community Spirit Run/Walk. Each entry fee comes with a free t-shirt while supplies last. Shirts can also be purchased for $20. 

Awards will be given to the first-, second- and third-place male and female finishers; first, second- and third-place finishers per age group male and female; and first-, second- and third place finishers 11 and under and 12+ in the one mile run/walk.

With the race, however, come road closures. Shrewsbury police are closing Obre Place, Samara Drive, Birch Drive, Spruce Drive and Patterson Avenue to vehicle traffic from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday. If you live on or off of those roads and need to drive during that time, you're asked to park your car at the Grove shopping center.
