St. James Preschoolers Celebrate Dr. Seuss' Birthday

Three and 4-year-old students enjoyed Read Across America Day.

As part of Read Across America Day, 3 and 4 year old students at celebrated the life and legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as the beloved children's book auther Dr. Suess. As part of Suess' 108th birthday, children honored his memory with green eggs, funny hats, and lessons on a variety of topics with reading, whimsical rhyming and rhythm couning, endearing characters, and helpful messages.

According to a release from the school, children and teachers alike came to school in pajamas with their favorite Dr. Suess book. The day began with a reading of Green Eggs and Ham, which was followed by a breakfast of, you guessed it, green eggs and ham.

Parents have tried to coax their kids to try new foods evoking the cautionary tale of the food snoot in Green Eggs and Ham. Students had mixed opinions, Ethan in Miss Leth’s 4 year old class, said he liked all the stories but didn't care for the green eggs, the release informs us.

Mrs. Serricchio and Miss Leth, both preschool teachers, also took class time to work Seuss into the curriculum and had a variety of fun and educational activities throughout day to help their students appreciate Seuss’ books. Students were also able to make their own red and white striped hats, just like the one worn by the Cat in the Hat.
