Dowd was born and raised in Brick, NJ and played for Brick High School’s hockey team, where he broke the national scholastic scoring record. He played for the NJ Devils for six of the 17 seasons of his NHL career, including the 1994-95 season when the Devils won the Stanley Cup.

“I love the game of hockey, and this is a great way to give back,” Mr. Dowd said.

Dowd and his wife, Lisa, started the Shoot for the Stars Foundation 18 years ago to help a young Brick Township resident who was critically ill. The All-Star Game began three years later and has supported various area charities ever since. The FoodBank is the beneficiary for the second year in a row – last year the game raised $20,000 to help alleviate hunger in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.

“We are grateful to Jim and Lisa Dowd for their generosity toward The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties,” said FoodBank Development Director Linda Keenan. “This is a great event that becomes more popular every year, and we are looking forward to a great night of hockey.”

The FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, a member of Feeding America, secures and distributes 7 million pounds of donated food annually to a network of approximately 260 hunger relief organizations in Monmouth and Ocean Counties.  The FoodBank is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit whose mission is to alleviate hunger and build food security in Monmouth and Ocean Counties. Those needing emergency food or shelter are encouraged to contact the emergency food pantries, soup kitchens and shelters in their communities.  For this information and more, see www.foodbankmoc.org or call 732-918-2600.
