MLB Outfielder and RBC Graduate Kalish to Miss Spring Training

Former Caseys standout requires surgery on his right shoulder

Former Red Bank Catholic standout Ryan Kalish will miss Major League Baseball spring training after requiring surgery on his right shoulder, ESPN.com reports.

Kalish, a Shrewsbury native, has been beset by injuries since joining the Boston Red Sox organization after being drafted out of high school.

The former pitcher and outfielder for the Caseys made the big leagues in 2010 but missed the 2011 season and much of 2012 with neck and shoulder injuries, ESPN.com reports. Kalish returned to Boston this past June but struggled and was shut down at the end of the season.

Boston had hoped Kalish would compete for a left-field position in 2013, likely splitting time with Jonny Gomes.

Kalish starred in baseball and football at Red Bank Catholic and was ranked the second best baseball prospect in the state by Baseball America when he graduated high school.
