Andrew Casten Scores 15 Point to Lead Caseys To Win

Andrew Casten scored 15 points to pace the Red Bank Catholic Caseys to a 51-41 victory over the Holmdel High School Hornets in a boys varsity basketball game Saturday afternoon in Red Bank.

The Caseys got off to a fast start and built up a 10-2 lead early in the first quarter.

With 4:34 left in the quarter the Casey's Mike Calandrillo got the rebound off a missed Holmdel shot at the basket but failed to make the basket.

Holmdel got the ball and scored a 3-pointer to reduce the Casey's lead to 10-5. Holmdel fouled Zack Gwydir but Gwydir was unable to convert the two foul shots.

With one minute left in the first quarter, the Casey's Dan Fallon scored and the quarter ended with the Caseys leading 15-7.

In the beginning seconds of the second quarter, the Caseys sped down the court, scored and led 17-7.

With 5:50 left in the second quarter, the Casey's Luke Oriolo made a layup and scored and the Caseys increased their lead to 19-10.

The Caseys widened the lead on the Hornets to 21-10. The Caseys fouled Holmdel however the Hornets were unable to make the two foul shot attempts. Fallon then missed a field goal attempt. The Caseys fouled Holmdel but the Hornets failed to make two foul shots.

The Caseys made two baskets with Fallon and Casten scoring quickly to increase the Caseys lead to 28-15.

The second quarter ended with the Caseys leading the Hornets 32-20.

The third quarter opened with the Caseys scoring 10 points to increase their lead to 42-23 with four minutes and 26 seconds left in the quarter.

Quick hands by the Caseys led to a steal of the ball and Chris Seaman scored a layup and the their lead increased to 44-23 with two minutes left in the third quarter.

The third quarter ended with the Caseys leading the Hornets 47-27.

The fourth quarter opened up with the Caseys missing a layup and RBC fouled Holmdel but the Hornets made one of two foul shots.

Fallon stole the ball and scored a basket to increase the Caseys lead to 49-28.

Holmdel then stole the ball and scored closing the gap to 51-32. RBC fouled Holmdel and the Hornets made the two foul shots.

The Casey's Nick Liggett broke up a Holmdel field goal attempt, however the Hornets got the ball back but failed in a field goal attempt.

The Hornets scored a 3-pointer and the Casey's lead was reduced to 51-40 with 9 seconds left in the game.

The Caseys fouled Holmdel, however the Hornets made one of two foul attempts and the game ended in a 51-41 Casey victory.

Seaman scored a total of points and teammate Dan Fallon had 8 and Zack Gwydir had 7.

For the Hornets, Senior Neeve Nikoo had 12 points while teammate Christian Vikse had 9 points and Chris Marciano had 9 points.

Head Coach Devitt Gillroy said he was happy with the team's performance.

"We played hard, executed the things we needed to do and played good defense," Gillroy said.

The Caseys are now 5 - 1 on the season.
