Matawan's Kenny Simmons Leads March 26 YCares Fundraiser

A benefit concert will be held on March 26 from 7-10 p.m., at the Matawan Municipal Complex Gymnasium, 201 Broad Street, Matawan.

Kenny Simmons could be considered a celebrity, being that he performed with three-time Grammy winning group, The Commodores.  But he is better known locally as a Matawan resident, member of The Community YMCA Board and someone who believes all children deserve the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive through Y programs. With this in mind, Simmons approached the Y with a plan for a benefit concert to raise $10,000 to provide scholarships for childcare, summer camp and preschool. The concert will be held on March 26 from 7-10 p.m., at the Matawan Municipal Complex Gymnasium, 201 Broad Street, Matawan.

Simmons was inspired to support childcare programs when a close friend of his, a recently single mom, was able to find support and care for her son through enrolling at the Y. After witnessing the Y’s dedication to families, Simmons wanted to find a way to help nurture the potential of children, while easing the burden of childcare costs.

Through his company Phoenix Atlantis Entertainment and support from The Infernos, America’s #1 Show Band, Simmons came up with an idea to host the benefit concert. Simmons is the lead singer of The Infernos, founded by Bobby Wells in 1977.  The band has performed for President Barack Obama, New Jersey governors and for audiences across New Jersey and around the world.

Proceeds from the concert will support The Community YMCA’s YCares financial assistance program, which provides needs-based scholarships for Y programs and services.

Concert tickets are now available for $25 for adults ($30 at the door), and $15 for children ages 12 to 18. Tickets can be purchased by visiting the Y at 201 Broad Street in Matawan or by phone at 732.566.9266. Free babysitting will be available for children ages 2 ½ to 12. The event is generously sponsored by Sansone Auto Mall and Phoenix Atlantis Entertainment.
