Y Teen Volunteer Receives State Alliance Recognition Award

The Community YMCA would like to congratulate one of our own, teen volunteer Chelsea Walsh of Middletown High School South, who was honored at the New Jersey YMCA State Alliance Dinner for Volunteer Recognition.  The dinner was held earlier this October at Forsgate Country Club in Jamesburg, and brought together local legislators, community members, and YMCA staff to recognize the efforts of public policy makers and volunteers of the 42 YMCAs from across the state.

Jackie Normyle, Teen Development Specialist at the Y described Chelsea as an outstanding candidate.  “Chelsea has been a Model UN and Youth & Government participant since she was a middle school student,” she said. “As she progressed through the program, she displayed natural leadership ability and was named as one of the presidents of her school’s Model UN and Youth & Government programs as a freshman,” she added.

Normyle also noted that Chelsea was especially noteworthy because of her willingness to go above and beyond. “She comes up with new ideas for the programs and asks to implement them. She recently requested that she attend middle school Model UN promotions so that she can talk to them about her experiences in the program and she attended our day of service at the Soul Kitchen in Red Bank,” Normyle said.

Chelsea is also well respected among her peers, as she was elected to chair the World Health Organization at next year’s Model UN conference.

“Volunteering is very important to me. Passion is what drives my volunteerism. I love giving back to people and watching my hard work pay off to those who need it most,” Chelsea said.
