Holiday Express Makes Special Prom Possible

Event was held for special needs students in the area.

Over 120 special needs students from the Harbor School in Eatontown, Gateway School in Carteret, and Alpha School in Jackson enjoyed a very special prom on Friday, May 25 at Gibbs Hall in Fort Monmouth.

Holiday Express, which during the holidays attracting thousands of people, raises funds for the less fortunate. 

Students dressed for the occasion and came ready to dance, sing and have fun while Holiday Express provided the live entertainment.

Holiday Express volunteers also donated hair and makeup services for the students prior to the event. McLoone’s Restaurants donated the food, and the use of Gibbs Hall.

The school’s staff, families and friends donated items for the “Prom Shop” which included dresses, suits, ties shirts, shoes, pocketbooks, jewelry and accessories.

Holiday Express is made up of 1,400 volunteers, 100 of whom are professional musicians from New Jersey and have shared the stage with many talented musicians including Bruce Springsteen, Bon Jovi and Rob Thomas.

The mission of the three sister schools (Harbor, Gateway, Alpha) is to provide a safe and nurturing educational environment dedicated to the vision that individuals with disabling conditions are entitled to a full and meaningful life.
