Racing in Skivvies to Benefit Riverview Medical Center

Second annual Undy 5000 5K Run set for this weekend in Pier Village in Long Branch.

It will be an odd scene in this weekend, as people will answer the age-old question of "boxers or briefs" during a charitable event that will spread awareness about the dangers of colon cancer.

The second annual Undy 5000 5K will begin in Pier Village, 1 Chelsea Ave., Long Branch, on Saturday, July 23 at 8 a.m.

The event is a 5K and 1-mile family fun run/walk that will help bring greater awareness to colon cancer, the second leading cause of cancer death in the United States. It will be hosted by the Colon Cancer Alliance, a national patient advocacy organization that wishes to put an end to colon cancer.

Last year, runners came up with creative team names such as No Butts About it, 3 Cheeks to the Wind and Bottoms Up. The CCA expects more fun teams to be formed this weekend as well.

Runners are encouraged to wear their underwear to the event, but must remember that is family-friendly. Race day boxers, as opposed to race day T-shirts, will be handed out to all participants as well.
