Playing "Musical Chairs" on Monmouth Street

Does your spouse come home to a freshly arranged living room multiple times a week? Does your living room transition it's look every holiday that passes? Is it a sort of musical chairs in your living space?

We play a version of musical chairs in our shops every time a large piece of furniture sells. We also play a version of the game every time we redecorate our shop windows. We are getting ready to remove anything Valentine related, and to "un-pink" any space we can. (Those pieces will still exist, but they won't be so front and center).

It's easy to play and rearrange your pieces when you are not locked in to a "matchy-matchy" look. When you are dealing with antique and vintage pieces, you aren't locked into buying a "set" of furniture. An antique wardrobe, for example, might be your "stopper" piece in your living room. You know, it is the George Clooney of the room. But without the French walnut table and the reupholstered vintage chairs, the ensemble wouldn't come together. Purchasing different pieces from individual dealers allows you the chance to curate your own style; whether it's classic, urban chic, or an eclectic blend.

If the cookie cutter look isn't what you are craving, antique and vintage pieces are just right for your design! And while the box stores that sell ten and fifteen piece matching rooms might have some nice stuff, wouldn't you rather be able to pull together your own look without having to take home pieces that you aren't so interested in?

And while I could wax nostalgic about the importance of shopping small and supporting the local economy, I know that our savvy readers understand the importance. After all, locally owned businesses return about 80% of each dollar to their community. Money well spent! Instead, I'll give you a preview of tomorrow's new window! And though George Clooney can't be the piece de résistance in your home, you are bound to find a stylish bar or chest of drawers that might. And with the money you'll save, you can probably find really good coffee in town. Right on Monmouth Street.
