Week Ahead: Sippin' on the River, Council Meeting, Businesses

Well, friends of the Red Bank-Shrewsbury area, between the roll-out of our new Patch site and news, last week was a busy one. And, with summer officially here, this week promises to rival it.

Jim Scavone was appointed executive director of RiverCenter, Red Bank's downtown business alliance. Congrats, again, Jim! This week there will be a little welcome get-together and Patch will be there.

Speaking of business in town … We took a look at Sugarush's idea of beefing up its retro candy stash, caught up on the progress of the expanded valet parking and today are asking people to tell us what they think should go where the defunct Rassas dealership sits, if not an already-disputed Walgreen's. The application has been submitted, but there is no hearing date yet.

RBR's Class of 2013 graduated on Friday. Congrats, grads!

This week, there is a Red Bank Borough Council meeting on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Let's see what news comes out of that. Stay tuned.

We'll also be taking a look at another business of interest in town, or maybe a look at one that has survived many decades, why and how.

The Count Basie Theatre parking issue is also something that has people a bit peeved. It's been brought up at past council meetings and in just plain conversation.

The general consensus has been that while it's wonderful for people to enjoy the Basie shows, some pay no mind to the signs and cones across the borough hall parking lot that indicate it's not the place for theatergoers to park. We'll see if we can get a spot for this week's meeting. Last time it was a challenge and hazard.

And, don't forget, friends and fans, the first Flavour-sponsored Sippin' on the River event is slated for June 29. We'll have a preview on that and will see you there.

If you hear of anything else you think we should know about, send a message. In the meantime, have a great week and read on! See you around the towns!
