MATES Students Win State 'Envirothon' Competition
Students from Brick, Toms River among the winners
For the fourth year in a row, a team of high school students from the Marine Academy of Technology and Environmental Sciences (MATES) in Manahawkin was the winner of the New Jersey Envirothon, held Saturday, May 4 at Girl Scout Camp Kettle Run in Medford, the state's Department of Agriculture has announced. The team, consisting of Emily Golembiski of Little Egg Harbor, Jillian Hubbard of Toms River, Gillian Schriever of West Creek, Michael Signorelli of Toms River and Megan Tumpey of Brick, will represent New Jersey in the 2013 North American Envirothon at Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana in August. RBR, RBC Nominated for Basie Awards
The annual awards recognize Monmouth County high school talent
They're the Tony Awards of area high schools' way off-Broadway stars — The Basie Awards. And it's showtime for the list of this year's nominees. For the 2012-13 high school theater season, Red Bank Regional garnered several nominations for its musical production of Little Women and two for The Little Mermaid (see nominees in bold on list below) and Red Bank Catholic was nominated in a couple of categories for its Lucky Stiff production (see nominees in bold on list below). In the drama category, Red Bank Catholic garnered nominations for its production of Miss Firecracker Contest (see below). Battle of the Classes RBR Food Drive
Students use their video skills to create a PSA encouraging food donations.
Those Red Bank Regional (RBR) videographers are at it again. This time, members of the graphic communications class lent their skills to a public service announcement encouraging food donations. The video, begins with two students squaring off in friendly competition over who can collect the most food, challenges RBR students to beat last year's 11,500 food item donation to the Salvation Army. The Battle of the Classes all-school food drive runs through May 17. Students are asked to label the donations with their class year. The class that brings in the most food will receive $1,000 toward their prom.
