Forty-three displaced families are currently living at Fort Monmouth.
FEMA is working on renovating more apartments for families displaced by Hurricane Sandy to Fort Monmouth. Robin Smith, of FEMA Media Relations, said 70 apartments are currently being fixed up so they can be used by the families. There are 28 1-bedroom apartments, 18 3-bedroom apartments and 24 4-bedroom apartments currently being renovated, Smith said. Most of these apartments will be located in the Fort Monmouth lodge area of Oceanport. FEMA has already completed renovations on 30 1-bedroom and 15 3-bedroom apartments in the McGill Commons area of Fort Monmouth. According to Oceanport Mayor Michael Mahon, Friday will be move-in day at Fort Monmouth for between 42 and 45 families. Mahon said the borough was notified Wednesday that the families would begin arriving Friday and that Oceanport is asked to provide fire response. Officials have accepted a deal with Oceanport's largest company to build its new headquarters on Fort Monmouth property in Tinton Falls. The deal will be the first sale of property at the fort. Fort redevelopers Wednesday night passed an amendment to a purchase-sale agreement with CommVault for a parcel of land in in the Charles Wood section of Tinton Falls where the data management firm will build it's new global headquarters. The property sale is set to close sometime in January at a sale price of $5.9 million, down from a previously agreed price of $6.1 million. The reduction is reportedly due to increased costs CommVault took on in its due diligence process, bringing in engineers of various fields to inspect the property. The Fort …
County says it hopes to open the facility in the spring of 2013.
Dormant now for more than a year, Fort Monmouth's Teen Center and its pool in Tinton Falls will see new life next year under the ownership of Monmouth County. This week the Fort Monmouth Economic Revilatization Authority approved the transfer of the property to the county under a Notice of Interest program, where the Army conveys a property to an entity at no cost, for the good of the public. Coutny Freeholder Lillian Burry, who is a member of the board of FMERA, thanked the board for its approval of the NOI and said the facility will be regional. (see bolded text for update) State Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon today clarified a statement that came from the governor's office Monday night, regarding housing for displaced Sandy victims. According to O'Scanlon, the Sandy housing units at Fort Monmouth will all be temporary and will initially total 180 (this includes the 45 currently being prepared for move in on Dec. 20). The Tinton Falls Borough Council introduces an ordinance that allows the high-tech biz to pay the municipality through a PILOT program when it moves to Fort Monmouth next year.
The Tinton Falls Council is taking the steps needed to bring CommVault from Oceanport to the Tinton Falls section of Fort Monmouth. CommVault is a data protection firm located at 2 Crescent Pl. in Oceanport that will be moving to parcel E in Tinton Falls. The parcel was once the site of Army housing, but a resolution passed by the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority (FMERA) in April will allow the company to build a new facility to house its 500 employees. The Tinton Falls Council introduced an ordinance during its Tuesday night meeting that will finalize a financial agreement between CommVault and the borough that will incorporate a payment in lieu of taxes (PILOT) program for the business. Temporary housing will include 45 units.
Those still looking for a place to live in the wake of Superstorm Sandy will have at least three more weeks before they can hope for a place at Fort Monmouth. The state announced today that work is under way at the fort to house those displaced by Sandy, but on a much smaller scale than previously announced. According to Lisa Ryan, director of communications for the NJ Department of Community Affairs, there will only be 45 housing units, which is based on the need identified by FEMA. These units will include 15 three-bedroom units and 30 one-bedroom units. Previous reports estimated that the fort would house 400-600 families and more than a month after the Governor previously estimated. No word yet on how these units will be allocated. …

Interchange improvement project discussion will be held at Tinton Falls Municipal Court
The New Jersey Turnpike Authority will hold a public hearing in Tinton Falls on Thursday, Nov. 29, to hear comments on the proposed Garden State Parkway Interchange 105 Improvements Project. The improvements would be made at Exit 105 in Tinton Falls and are part of a proposed $40 million plan to improve traffic flow in the area and improve access to Fort Monmouth. The public hearing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Tinton Falls Municipal Court House, at 556 Tinton Avenue.
