At Chris Christie's first town hall meeting since Hurricane Sandy, the New Jersey governor promises to put politics aside.
Beyond New Jersey’s borders, Gov. Chris Christie’s post-Hurricane Sandy motives have been a topic of debate. His embrace of President Barack Obama following his arrival in New Jersey after the storm drew jeers from hardline Republicans concerned with the image it would present so close to the election. Some on the left have even intimated that the handshake, delivered soon after New Jersey was hit by the most devastating storm in its history, and as millions of residents remained without power, was a calculated move on Christie’s part that could lead to him throwing his hat in the ring for the Democratic nomination in the 2016 Presidential election. None of it matters, Christie said to a standing room only audience at Belmar’s municipal …

Word of a donation relief drive spread beyond the state, attracting donations from all over for Hurricane Sandy victims.
The Hurricane Sandy relief drive was apparently organized by the families of children at Red Bank Charter School. With parts of the state devastated by the first category one hurricane to ever hit the Jersey Shore and many homeless, a call was put out for donations of everything from canned goods to winter coats, toiletries and even diapers. Soon, word spread to families in Pennsylvania that their neighbors were in need of some help. Soon, those families asked a local radio station for help in getting the word out that donations were needed. On Monday, a 40-foot trailer pulled up to Lunch Break loaded with more than anyone, even the organization's Executive Director Gwen Love, could have expected. At around noon Monday, Love was on the …

Tons of donations poured into the Red Bank YMCA Sunday, including some from a Y in Delaware.
She certainly gave it her best. Hurricane Sandy knocked down wires, tore trees from the ground, caused widespread power outages throughout the region, and decimated wide swaths of the Jersey shore in what some are calling the worst storm to ever hit this state. Despite her best efforts, Sandy proved to be no match for the community. Doors opened at the Community YMCA on Maple Avenue in Red Bank at noon Sunday for a hastily thrown together relief drive. An hour into the day the walls of the gymnasium were lined with tons of supplies, from food and non-perishable food items, to toiletries and clothing. It's responses like these, even with the lights still out in many Monmouth County homes, that continue to demonstrate a shared sense of …

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 30's tonight.
With temperatures expected to fall into the 30's tonight and many area residents still without electricity and heat, the need for a warm place to spend an hour or five has become a priority. With power restoration for many in the Greater Red Bank area not expected until Wednesday, or perhaps longer, those seeking refuge from the cold have a number of options tomorrow, Sunday, as well as the days moving forward. Shrewsbury Boro School is opening its doors at 7 a.m. Sunday morning and is operating a 'Warming Center' until 7 p.m. Residents are invited to stop on by, heat up and plug in throughout the day. In Red Bank, the Community YMCA got power back Saturday and has immediately established a plan to help its neighbors. From 8 a.m. to 7 p.m…

Drive will take place both Sunday and Monday.
Red Bank Regional High School teachers, administrators and students have organized a donation drive to assist those impacted by Hurricane Sandy, RBR teacher Cassandra Dorn said in an email. The donation drive will take place Sunday and Monday at the Salvation Army building at 180 Newman Springs Rd. Organizers are asking for donations such as bottled water, non-perishable food items, new sheets and blankets, new or gently used clothing, and toiletries. Donations efforts are concentrated on helping students who come from Union Beach and were hit especially hard by Hurricane Sandy, Dorn wrote. RBR will accept donations at the Salvation Army bulding Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Monday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Many Red Bank businesses are offering their services in these times of need.
With most Red Bank residents still without power but with the borough's downtown mostly electrified as of Friday, businesses throughout town are doing their best to help out, whether that means offering an electrical outlet or two, providing information to the public, and even collecting supplies for Hurricane Sandy victims. Front Street business Sounds to Go DJs has teamed up with other Red Bank businesses and non-profit organization Move for Hunger to collect and distribute food and other items to Sandy victims in coastal towns. Using their office as a collection center, Sounds to Go had plenty of volunteers on hand Friday collecting everything from canned goods, to clothing, and toiletries. According to Chris Paseka of Sugarush, which …
