Mandy Galante is no stranger to awards but says this one is special because a former student submitted the nomination.
Jared Katzman, a freshman at Yale University, says he knew just who to nominate when he got an e-mail from the school last spring regarding its annual award for outstanding high school educators. The Red Bank Regional grad nominated applied technology teacher Mandy Galante, with whom he spent four years getting to know in the classroom and while traveling to technology competitions. Along the way, Galante became a valuable mentor to her student whose advice he sought on everything from where to apply to school to what language to take studying abroad. "I felt like the whole reason I got accepted (to Yale) was because of her," Katzman, who's from Little Silver, tells Patch. "Every single time I made a decision, I always needed her seal of …

The borough council recognized Galante's Teacher of the Year designation at the high school.
Little Silver Mayor Robert C. Neff, Jr. observed at last week's council meeting that having teacher Mandy Galante over at Red Bank Regional is "neat for us." "She's someone from the community who's made us proud," he added, before reading a proclamation recognizing Galante's designation as Teacher of the Year at the High School. "Everybody knows your accomplishments," said Neff of Galante's accomplishments creating the curriculum that offers students a study concentration and career path in cyber security. "It's so well deserved." We expect to see Galante, who's married to Councilman Don Galante, back at a future meeting to be recognized by council for also nabbing the county's Teacher of the Year bragging rights.

Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno recognized Academy of Information Techonolgy students for their recent success in a nationwide competition.
Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno made it very clear to the group gathered in Red Bank Regional's media center on Monday that it wasn't the school's proximity to her home nearby that brought her there that morning. "It's that important," she said of the school's Information Technology students nabbing the top three spots in the state in a nationwide competition. Guadagno gave a nod to all of the ingredients that went into the students' success -- including parents, teachers and a school board that supports the cyber security program. She singled out teacher Mandy Galante for her "tenacity" in not only helping her IT students succeed during competition but also in promoting all of the good things going on at Red Bank Regional. Thirty-seven students…
