A 4% Hike for Red Bank BOE Budget

K-8 schools got some aid surprises

The Red Bank Board of Education, comprising the Red Bank Primary and Middle schools, adopted its $13.2 million budget last week; and, it translates into a 4 percent increase in the schools portion of the tax bill for property owners. With a current tax levy of exactly $12,652,188, the budget represents a hike of more than half a million dollars, or $522,503, to precisely $13,174,691, a 4.13 percent increase. The new tax rate means $93.39 more a year paid out in school taxes for a property owner with the borough's average assessment of $405,522. Monthly, it means an average of $7.32 more on the schools portion of the tax bill.  On the lower end of the assessment spectrum, it means a $57.57 annual hike in the schools portion of the tax bill …

Red Bank School Board to Swear in Members at Reorganization

Meeting planned for 7 p.m. tonight at middle school

A newcomer and two incumbents will take their seats tonight when the Red Bank Board of Education reorganizes.  The school board will hold its annual reorganization meeting at 7 p.m. at Red Bank Middle School. It will be the first reorganization in January, as Red Bank, like the vast majority of New Jersey school districts, chose to hold elections in November instead of the traditional April elections when given the option by the state. Incumbents Ann Roseman and Carrie Ludwikowski will take their oaths for new terms on the nine-member board, as will newcomer Frederick Stone. The trio ran unopposed for their seats in November and received 1,601, 1,630 and 1,515 votes, respectively. School board reorganizations typically see the election of …

Red Bank Teachers, BOE Agree to New Contract

The new three-year-deal was approved unanimously by the Red Bank Board of Education.

With teachers and school boards at Red Bank Regional and Shrewsbury Borough mired in lengthy contract disputes, the Red Bank School District quickly and relatively painlessly negotiated and approved a new contract with its teachers over the summer. Following the expiration of the teacher’s contract at the end of last school year, the board of education unanimously approved a new three-year deal at its August meeting. Details of the deal were not immediately released pending contingent approval of the new contract by the district’s teachers.     For the first year of the contract, teachers will see a 2.8 percent increase in their salaries. For the following two years, that figure drops to 2.4 percent. The percentage figures are somewhat …

But if I recall, she is being supported by Senator Jennifer Beck who knows about information regarding her friend Lt. Governor Guadagno concerning fraud in the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office. Ms. Beck has refused to say anything about it. And it did take place in Ms. Beck's district. Based on that association, I simply cannot support Ms. Viscomi unless she distances herself from Ms. Beck--…   more ›

School Board Introduces Budget, Criticizes State

Red Bank School District introduced its $20.834 million budget before council Wednesday night.

It's been a constant and legitimate gripe from the Red Bank School District. When it comes to funding, officials say the borough's schools just aren't getting enough of it. At Wednesday's council meeting, the Red Bank Board of Education unveiled its budget for the upcoming year, which includes an increase and modest tax increase over last year's budget. Because of the expansion of its preschool to accommodate all of Red Bank's three and four-year-old students, and because of a growing school population, the school district was allowed, by state law, to increase its budget by 7.5 percent, but chose instead to cap its increase at just 3 percent. The complete school budget is $20.834 million, a number that includes local taxes, state aid, …
