Rains Roll In, Classic Cars Roll Out

Red Bank's Car Cruise was washed out Wednesday as thunderstorms drenched the downtown.

On a typical car cruise night, more than 100 classic rides roll through downtown Red Bank in a revival of a decades-old tradition that first gained popularity in the 1950s and 60s. Wednesday night's car cruise, however, was a washout as yet more scattered thunderstorms drenched the downtown right in the middle of what should have been yet another classic car showcase. Though most got the message, a scant few classic cars did show up, parking along Broad Street and looking out of place without company. There was enough word that the original Batmobile circa 1966 was going to show up. Alas, the weather failed to cooperate. It was not immediately clear if a rain date would be scheduled.

Cars and Conscience

Frankie Woods has been Red Bank's go-to guy for organizing car shows, and raising money for worthy causes.

Last Chance: Red Bank Car Cruise

The car cruise through downtown returns to Red Bank tonight. Come check out all of the hot rides.

It's that time of the year, when classic beauties show up downtown, some even with their tops off, for your viewing pleasure. We're talking cars here, of course. The Red Bank Car Cruise returns tonight with dozens of participating car owners parking their rides on Broad, Monmouth and White Streets in a throwback to a mid-20th century staple in which the best way to spend your night was showing off your car and being James Dean-cool. And, it's all for a good cause, donations made during the event will go to help a local 5-year-old who is battling cancer for a second time. The cruise is being held between 5 and 9 p.m. tonight downtown. Stroll on by to get in on the action. The cars, combined with the the charity component, will make this …
