Red Bank Police Report a Tire Slasher, Graffiti Maker and Stone Thrower

The following information was obtained directly from Red Bank Police Department records. It does not indicate convictions.

  Red Bank police reported the following incidents in the past week: • Criminal mischief was reported on May 10 on Branch Avenue vacant residence. Someone had pried open the apartment door at the residence, police said. Last time property was checked was in February of 2013. Patrolman Michael Zadlock took the report. • Criminal mischief was reported on May 12 at Riverview Plaza. Graffiti was reported to have been spray-painted on garbage cans, a lamppost, garage and the side of a building. Patrolman George Travostino took the report. • Criminal mischief was reported on May 13 on Monmouth Street. Court Date Set for McKenna's DWI and Related Charges Following Crash

McKenna faces the DWI and two related charges in Tinton Falls

Former Red Bank Mayor Ed McKenna will appear in Tinton Falls Municipal Court on June 11 to answer to the driving while intoxicated and related charges lodged against him following a single-car collision on the Garden State Parkway, officials at Tinton Falls court said Thursday afternoon. "The incident occurred on Garden State Parkway north around milemarker 108 on May 13 (Monday) at 9:50 p.m.," NJ State Police Spokesman Brian Polite said. McKenna, 63, is now facing driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and unsafe lane change charges by NJ State Police, who patrol the parkway, after "the investigation indicated that McKenna was traveling north in the express lanes of the parkway when he lost control of his vehicle (a Mercedes), …

RB Police Make Assault, DWI Arrests

The following information was obtained directly from Red Bank police records. It does not indicate convictions.

   • Tanya Johnson, 27, of Red Bank was arrested on May 7 in the area of S. Pearl Street and charged with simple assault by Patrolman Jorge Torres. • Luis Fuentes-Morales,  21, of Red Bank, was arrested on May 6 in the area of Monmouth Street and charged with simple assault by Patrolman Nicholas Maletto. • Joseph Scopellite, 21, of Colts Neck, was arrested on May 5 in the area of W. Front Street and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) by Capt. Darren McConnell. • George Naeder, 56, of Red Bank, was arrested on May 3 in the area of Bridge Avenue and charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) by Patrolman Ashon Lovick. * Police also arrested seven people on contempt of court charges.

Red Bank Police Report Garden Trasher, Water Tosser and Hole Puncher

  Red Bank police reported the following incidents between May 3 and 8: • A theft was reported on May 3 at Brown Place. The victim reported that former tenants allegedly stole garden stone benches, a fountain, a lawn edger, a front door and a ladder when moving out. Patrolman Ashon Lovick took the report and is investigating. • An incident of criminal mischief was reported on May 3 at Chestnut and West streets. The victim reported that a person threw a water bottle out of the window of a bus, striking his vehicle and damaging the plastic guard below the windshield wipers. Area Man Arrested on 2012 Red Bank Armed Robbery Charges

Red Bank police have arrested an area man on charges in connection with a 2012 armed robbery in town. Joshua Stepney, 28, of 60 William St., Tinton Falls, was arrested on May 2 for his part in a robbery "in the area of" 3 West Front Street on Nov. 18, 2012, according to the complaint warrant.  Stepney allegedly put the robbery victim "in fear of immediate bodily injury while committing a theft," it said. That information was obtained by the co-defendant in the alleged crime while making a video statement during the investigation, according to the complaint. Stepney was held on $50,000 bail with no 10 percent option, set by Judge William Himelman.

Gallery U to Showcase Students' Work

The exhibit will begin on May 8

For art's sake Red Bank Regional High School arts students are showing their photography work. The work of Red Bank Regional’s (RBR) Visual and Performing Arts Academy (VPA) senior commercial photography majors will be on display starting May 8 at Gallery U, 80 Broad Street, Red Bank, through May 20. The public is invited to come and meet the artists at a special reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on opening night, Wednesday, May 8. The work on exhibit will include a mixture of film, digital, and alternative process pieces, combining both black and white and color work. Red Bank Clearview Cinema to be Bought by Bow Tie

Cablevision sells 41 venues to Ridgefield, Conn. chain.

Bow Tie Cinemas of Ridgefield, Conn. announced it has purchased 41 Clearview Cinema theaters from Cablevision, including the Clearview on White Street in Red Bank, a published report said Monday. With the acquisition, which will make Bow Tie the nation’s number eight exhibition company, Bow Tie vows to pay for “key upgrades that are designed to enhance the movie-going experience,” including digital and 3D projection, according to a report on the website Deadline.com. Clearview currently has 26 theaters in New Jersey, the report said. Cablevision bought the venues in 1998 and put the chain up for sale last year. Mildred Becker, Longtime Surray Luggage Employee, Dies at 93

Mildred Becker, 93, of Fair Haven, who worked at Red Bank's Surray Luggage for nearly half a century, passed away Saturday, April 27, at Meridian Nursing and Rehabilitation, Shrewsbury. Born in Red Bank, Mildred moved to Fair Haven in 1959. A graduate of the NJ Beauty Culture Academy, she was a member of the Fair Haven Senior Citizens group and the Congregation B'Nai Israel in Tinton Falls. After she graduated from beauty school, Mildred worked as a beautician for several years before working at Surray Luggage in Red Bank for more than 40 years, according to legacy.com.
