Red Bank businesses are in the pink — or getting the tinge of Pink Bank. As a testament to the Paint the Town Pink campaign, sponsored by Meridian Health, business owners and residents were invited to participate in the annual month-long May pink decorating event designed to heighten breast cancer awareness and raise funds for research and covering costs for under- or uninsured women's mammograms. "Participation is free and the level of involvement is up to each individual business," according to a release from Meridian. "Meridian will provide each registered business a 'pink kit' which includes educational materials, a window cling for your storefront, a listing on the website and pink piggybanks to collect money ..." The new annual event drew thousands
Sunday was Red Bank's second annual International Flavour Festival; and, judging by the crowd's reaction, a good time was had by all. At day-long event, sponsored by the Red Bank RiverCenter, there was live music, dancing, face painting, specialty craft booths and food galore. The long-planned project is under way
It was 2006 when the trendy West Side Lofts live-work-play hub was first approved for Red Bank. But, back then, the economy wouldn't support the vision slated for the heart of the borough's Arts and Antiques District. Still, the project's developer, Metrovation Captial, held fast for it to come to fruition. Now, with the advent of spring 2013, after tempering trying economic times, a housing market crash, color issues and couple of years of ironing out final zoning issues, the sound of construction is humming at the site. Officials claim residents were overbilled between 2006 and 2009 by the Two Rivers Water Reclamation Authority.
Red Bank and Shrewsbury Township are among the six municipalities suing the Two Rivers Water Reclamation Authority (TRWRA), charging the utility overbilled, and in some instances double-billed, its residents, according to a report on APP.com. The suit, filed in December by Red Bank, Rumson, Eatontown, Sea Bright, Shrewsbury Township and Tinton Falls, alleges that TRWRA charged residents higher rates than other participating towns, amounting to an estimated $4.31 million in overbilling between the 2006 and 2009 fiscal years, the article states.
