Prognosticating camel improves Super Bowl record to 8-1
Princess the camel from Popcorn Park Zoo scored another ‘W’ when the Ravens clinched Super Bowl XLVII. Although it was a close call as the 49ers made a comeback in the fourth quarter, the odds were in favor of Princess’ prediction with the Ravens winning 34-31. Popcorn Park celebrated the victory with an update on its Facebook page: “Ravens win!!! Princess picking another Super Bowl winner… Priceless!” Each year, Princess predicts the winner of NFL games, including the Super Bowl. Princess makes her decisions based on graham crackers. Each week, General Manager John Bergmann writes the names of two teams competing and holds a graham cracker, Princess’ favorite snack, in each hand. Will Princess the Camel's prediction put the Ravens over the hump?
Princess the Camel of Popcorn Park Zoo has a thing for underdog stories. As a football prognosticator, Princess has predicted the Baltimore Ravens will come out on top in Super Bowl XLVII. “She thought about it for a while,” said John Bergmann, general manager of Popcorn Park. Princess, who has been prognosticating for the past seven years, has the uncanny ability to predict the outcome of games. This season she is 11-6, having missed several weeks due to Popcorn Park’s involvement in rescuing animals after Hurricane Sandy. For Super Bowls, Princess’ record is 7-1. Facebook data shows most Jersey users are rooting for the 49ers, switching their allegiance (temporarily) from the Giants or Eagles
It's not a surprise that most Facebook users in New Jersey started the football season solidly supporting the New York Giants or Philadelphia Eagles. "While winning seems to matter, NFL teams have local followings that are probably heavily influenced by family ties and/or where a person grew up," according to Facebook, which recently compiled data on users who are fans of an NFL team on the social network. But now that the locals' seasons are over and the Baltimore Ravens are heading to Super Bowl XLVII against the San Francisco 49ers, Jersey residents have shifted their allegiance. Perhaps surprisingly, the vast majority of New Jersey Facebook users favor the West Coast 49ers, with fans from Cape May, Salem, Gloucester and Camden counties…
