An Asbury Park woman is charged with assaulting a Shrewsbury police officer who was making an arrest. Tykia Moore, 19, of Central Avenue was arrested on drug charges Jan. 10 in Shrewsbury. However, Moore resisted officers, according to complaints filed with Superior Court. She refused to follow officers' orders and "purposely" struck Patrolman Ryan Cullinane in the leg with a car door, according to the complaints. Moore had less than 50 grams of suspected marijuana in her possession, as well as drug paraphernalia, police said. She was charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Jan. 12 Wonder Bar concert will both honor Clarence Clemons and raise money for schools
It's the Big Man's birthday, but it's also a chance to help get local schools' music programs hitting the right notes again. With many local school facilities affected by Hurricane Sandy, organizers to the first "Clarence Clemons Day" concert are also raising money for programs where instruments and sheet music were damaged by the storm. Jan. 12, the Wonder Bar in Asbury Park will host "Celebrating Clarence: The Big Man's Birthday Benefit" honoring Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band longtime saxophonist, who died in 2011. New Jersey newly declared "Clarence Clemons Day" is Jan. 11 — this year's will be the first celebration. Organizers announced: "This event will also serve as a benefit to raise money for local school district music …

An upcoming concert will benefit five charities that have aided and continue to aid victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Suffice it to say, On the Beach: A Sandy Relief Concert is no 12-12-12 Concert for Sandy Relief. Perhaps that’s not such a bad thing. The latter concert raised millions of dollars for the Robin Hood Foundation’s Sandy relief fund with an aged lineup of sometimes-shirtless rock icons and was broadcast throughout the world on television, radio and the Internet. The concert helped highlight the need that followed Hurricane Sandy and has resulted in millions of grant dollars being distributed to various organizations, a majority of them in New York City. But, the concert left promoter and Jersey Shore native Tony Pallagrosi feeling a bit detached. Despite Jersey representation at 12-12-12 courtesy of The Boss and Bon Jovi, the show was held at…

"SantaCon" is one big town-wide party and charitable collection, dressed in red velvet and white fur.
Here comes Santa Claus. Approximatey 500 of them, organizers of the 2012 SantaCon in Asbury Park estimate, for city-wide fun and charity this Saturday. Which of these Santas is the real one? It might be hard to tell, but one of these Santas calls himself Swayze Claus, and he's one of the jolly old elves in charge around SantaCon. The mission of SantaCon? "This year, beautiful Asbury Park will come alive with red and white merriment as we gather to sing songs, play reindeer games, spread joy, and give to those less fortunate," said Swayze Claus. Participants should bring an unwrapped toy and/or a nonperishable food item, which will be donated to charity, and expect to have a good time among hundreds of Santas, elves, scrooges, Grinches, …

Cuban Restaurant opens right on the Boardwalk in Asbury Park just in time for summer
The ever evolving Asbury Park Boardwalk has had some restaurants come and go the past few years but the most recent addition I feel will be have a good run. Cubacan, a Cuban restaurant and bar, opened up next to the Watermark and a few doors down from the excellent Italian restaurant, Stella Marina. I went there for my birthday in April when they had just opened, and my friends and I were all pleased with the result. For the most part, Cubacan is the only traditional Cuban restaurant near me and that’s what drew me to it right away. It also made me crave La Plaza Cubana, the Cuban sandwich place I frequented last summer. Cubacan has a tapas menu that offers the traditional Cuban sandwich; perfect for sitting at the bar at happy hour from 3…
