Char, Broadway Diner Receive Restaurant Inspections

The results of recent inspections at various food establishments in Red Bank.

Health departments in Monmouth County inspected numerous food establishments in late February and early March. A satisfactory rating indicates the business is in compliance state food safety and sanitation requirements. A conditional satisfactory rating indicates the establishment was in violation of one or more requirements and will be subject to an unannounced reinspection. An unsatisfactory rating indicates unsafe or unsanitary conditions requiring the owner to cease operation until the conditions are resolved and a reinspection takes place. There are seven regional health departments responsible for the 53 municipalities in Monmouth County. Red Bank and Shrewsbury are covered by the Monmouth Regional Health Commission, which can be …

Char Starts From the Studs

A quick peak inside the Broad Street building that will house Char restaurant.

In just a few months, the image you see above of a gutted-out building, torn down to the studs and brick, with debris littering the concrete floor, will be home to Red Bank's hottest and hippest new restaurant, Char Steakhouse. Just last February, the owners behind the plan to bring Char to Red Bank won site plan approval from the borough's Planning Board. The approval came with a couple of variances, most of them having to do with the modern style and design - both inside and outside of the building - developed by Cahill Studio. Char Will Shine on "Dark Corner"

For Red Bank RiverCenter, the organization whose purpose it is to …

Steak on the Planning Menu

The owners of Char are looking for variances from the Planning Board to open their new restaurant on Broad Street.

The group looking to bring Char steakhouse to Red Bank is hoping the borough’s Planning Board sees fit to approve its site plan and issue a number of variances for necessary changes currently standing in its way. Good Forks Properties will appear before the Planning Board tonight with its plan to open a Char steakhouse at 33 Broad Street, the former Broad Street site of Ashes Cigar Club. The combo bar, restaurant and smoking lounge was shut down in 2010 after a tumultuous several years that ultimately ended with the business closing after being stripped of its liquor license. The site lay dormant for some time with only a sign with the image of a bulldog smoking a cigar serving as a reminder of its past. One weekend this past August, …
